December 6, 2025Etafeni Day Care Centre Trust (Etafeni) is a registered non-profit organisation based in Nyanga, Cape Town. As a multi-purpose facility, Etafeni delivers a wide range of educational, social welfare, and outreach programmes to underserved communities. The organisation focuses on supporting families affected by HIV/AIDS, with a strong emphasis on women and children.
Etafeni implements various impactful programmes, including Early Childhood Development (Crèche & Preschool), Afterschool Care support, Women’s Wellness initiatives, psycho-social and therapeutic support, Home and Community-Based Care, Food Garden & Nutrition, Power Girls, and Fit for Life, Fit for Work.
Etafeni is seeking to appoint a Human Resources Coordinator to join the team.
Purpose of the role
Reporting to the Director, the Human Resources Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and practices aligned with the organisation’s overall objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage recruitment, selection, and induction processes
- Oversee time, attendance, and leave management
- Handle disciplinary matters, retrenchments, and represent the organisation at CCMA
- Coordinate performance management processes
- Maintain employee records, contracts, and personnel files
- Develop and update job descriptions
- Manage the full payroll function, including UIF
- Review and implement HR policies and procedures, including the HR Manual
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and organisational policies
- Compile and submit Employment Equity reports
- Develop and submit the Workplace Skills Plan
- Coordinate staff training and development initiatives
- Design and implement employee wellness programmes
- Supervise HR Assistant and manage volunteers
- Engage with external stakeholders (e.g., DoH, DSD, unions, consultants)
- Prepare for and manage HR audits
Minimum Requirement
- Matric and a Diploma in Human Resources Management
- 1–2 years’ experience in a Human Resources role
- Experience in payroll administration
- Working knowledge of labour legislation
- Fluency in isiXhosa and English
- Experience in HR audits and implementation of audit recommendations
Competencies and Skills
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Excellent report writing skills
- Ability to influence and engage stakeholders effectively
- Computer literacy (MS Office essential)
- Understanding of the NGO sector will be an advantage
- Valid driver’s licence
