Phindiswa Cwayi: Hope Growing in My Backyard
December 5, 2025Anthea Leaman always dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. She enrolled in a design course in July 2024 and began her sewing training a month later. From the beginning, Anthea thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and felt privileged to be part of a supportive and inspiring group. The programme began with theoretical lessons, followed by practical workshops. She successfully designed and sewed three garments before graduation – an outstanding accomplishment for a first-time sewer. She went on to write her final FISA exams and scored an impressive 98%.
Anthea also participated in our newly created Business, Marketing, and Branding module, and then launched her own brand, ‘ZAL Lee Design’. She was given the opportunity by Etafeni to further her studies in Facilitation, Assessment, and Moderation. This qualification will allow Anthea to be the official moderator of our sewing exams in future. She also volunteered in our social work programme, where she secured the position of Outreach Officer. Today, Anthea proudly serves the Nyanga community with dignity and love – a testament to her resilience and growth.
